Life Trials Make Diamonds

What has diamonds to do with Romans 5:3-4?

And not only this, but [with joy] let us exult in our sufferings and rejoice in our hardships, knowing that hardship (distress, pressure, trouble) produces patient endurance;  and endurance, proven character (spiritual maturity); and proven character, hope and confident assurance [of eternal salvation] (Romans 5:3-4, AMP)

A diamond, the hardest naturally occurring substance on Earth, formed under high pressure and temperature over billions of years.  It is one of the most precious of all the gemstones.  During the development of the diamond, it is changed slowly from one substance to another.  The results are a brilliant, hard multi-faceted stone that is treasured throughout the world.

The Life’s Grinding Stone

The trials and tribulations that we go through as part of living  can either turn you into a person of integrity and a warrior for God or, if you let troubles weaken you, you will break under the pressure and never emerge as the precious stone that God has purposed you to be.   As I look back on my life and the difficulties that I have encountered, I truly thank God for preserving me and continuing to work with me during my trials.  He gave me the strength to go through and not buckle.  The trials have smooth many of the rough edges and strengthen me.  When I face problems I remember the Holy Spirit has moved me through other problems.  Although I pray for a miraculous deliverance from the trouble, sometimes you just need to go through it so the lesson can be taught and another chunk of worthless material can be removed.  The trouble usually comes because I did not do what the Holy Spirit prompted me to do or I stubbornly followed my own path instead of asking for guidance and awaiting His response.  I have also been known to place my trust in a person instead of trusting God.  I have learned about what a mistake misplaced trust is the hard way.

Personally, I still struggle with praying for deliverance when trouble comes, but I at least now know that God will work in his own time and according to His own plan.  So my prayers include a request for deliverance, but also if it is not according to His will that He will strengthen and guide me through it.  grinding stone

Just as gemstones are smoothed to make them more brilliant, we are smoothed on the grinding stone of life, smoothed so that the rough edges are worn away and the true warrior for God shines through.

Have you felt the smoothing process as the Holy Spirit guides you through life’s trials?

  2. Yes God is with us through all the Hardship life brings to us but as confirmed in Scripture we do reap what we sow, just as the Prodigal Son did before He came to his senses and repented, this is God’s discipline but Wow what a Welcome Home. Also those who are Faithful in the Body of Christ will be motivated to chastise us in Love and for Love if we continue to Sin, even if firm rebuke is needed, just as Paul did with the Childish Christians.

God shapes and molds us as we aim to be Perfected in Love by giving us opportunities to choose to walk in The Fruit of The Spirit through His empowering, which puts our Carnal flesh to death. He does not willingly afflict us or ignore us to mold and shape us, His planes for us are good not evil, nor does He willingly allow evil to teach us or so He can control us, He does not want Puppets but for us to willingly choose to Love and obey Him. The Scriptures tell us it is slander and punishable to even say other believers do evil to bring good out of it. God is Love and Love can do no evil or promote it in anyway.

Lamentations 3: 33 For God doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the Children of Men.

Isaiah 43:1-3 – Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.”

Jeremiah 29 :11-12 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD,

    • Yes Anne, we were given the freedom of choice, but as Believers in Jesus and receivers of the indwelling Holy Spirit, we should be slowly choosing to change and make the correct choices following the guidance of the Holy Spirit and no longer allowing ourselves to remain rough stones tossed about by your emotions and circumstances. 2 Timothy 2:26 says, “and that they may come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.” (AMP) Those of us who choose to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance will be shaped and smoothed from the rough stones we were to diamonds reflecting our brilliant light on a darken world.

But as you stated it is our choice. The Prodigal son had to choose to select the correct path which lead him back to his father and to the love and rewards available to him. The Prodigal son found out that sometimes the rough edges are harder to smooth and require strong lessons before we learn the correct path to take. It would be hoped that as we mature in our walk with God while being guided by the Holy Spirit that we get the message sooner than later.

I know that I personally have changed a lot just in the last year. I still have a long, long way go, but I am getting better in some areas and see little or no change in others. But as long as I am striving and repentant when I realize my error, I am growing and being shaped and molded.

      Be Blessed, Amina

  3. for me personally, Hardships struggles and life’s tragedies are our own stepping stone first for motivation, liberation of self and of confidence. “Thank God for the suffering”- Dani Filth… means to me, we cant live without it, it reminds us we can bleed and live through it. That is simply life.

    • Thank you for the comment. I agree with you that the struggles and trials are apart of life that remind me I am still breathing. These difficulties are what builds character and affect change in my behavior as I learn from them. I find that going through trials creates lessons in my life that are not forgotten.

  4. If one at least recognizes what the bible is giving us, is that it is written already we just have to read it and apply what is being said.
